Wispr Flow Notetaker is an advanced AI-powered voice dictation and note-taking tool developed by Wispr AI, a San Francisco-based startup founded by experts in natural language processing and speech recognition. Launched in 2023, the tool employs a hybrid architecture combining OpenAI's Whisper model for speech-to-text with large language models (LLMs) for automatic text refinement. Its primary purpose is to enable users to speak naturally in any application or text field, instantly converting their words into polished written text—removing filler words (e.g., "um," "uh"), correcting grammar, adding punctuation, and adapting tone and style to the context.

Architecture and Technical Features

Wispr Flow operates on a hybrid cloud architecture: audio is captured locally on the device via desktop or mobile app, then sent to Wispr AI servers where it is processed by the Whisper model for speech recognition. Subsequently, the raw text passes through a language processing layer using multiple LLMs to improve phrasing, eliminate redundancy, and apply custom formatting rules. The tool features a custom dictionary that learns user-specific names and jargon, significantly improving recognition accuracy with repeated use.

Cross-Platform Integration

Wispr Flow offers seamless integration with virtually all applications thanks to a virtual keyboard that operates at the operating system level. On macOS and Windows, users can activate dictation with a single keystroke in any text field, including email, document editors, integrated development environments (IDEs), and messaging apps. On iOS and Android, the tool works as an alternative keyboard that can be invoked in any app. It also integrates with Claude and ChatGPT to use voice notes directly in AI conversations.

Notetaker Feature

In addition to real-time dictation, Wispr Flow provides a "Notetaker" feature that captures voice notes during meetings or lectures and automatically organizes them into structured notes. In the free plan, Notetaker access is limited, while paid plans offer unlimited access with longer note history. These notes can be exported to other AI tools like Claude and ChatGPT for further analysis and summarization.

Performance and Language Support

The tool supports over 100 languages, with a particular focus on English where it achieves the highest accuracy levels. For Arabic, voice dictation is possible, but the quality of automatic formatting and filler word removal may be lower compared to English. Output quality depends heavily on audio clarity and internet connection speed, as cloud processing occurs in real time.

Privacy and Security

Wispr AI follows a strict privacy policy: data is encrypted in transit, and audio recordings are not stored after processing. In the Growth plan, single sign-on (SSO) with SAML is available, along with HIPAA compliance with a signed BAA, making it suitable for healthcare and legal sectors. However, no public API is available yet, limiting custom developer integrations.
