Bethesda has announced an enhanced version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. The new digital-only release is the Anniversary Edition, including the base game, three major expansions, and hundreds of additional items. While offering notable technical improvements, the full version is priced at $60 for new users.
Bethesda has added the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 to the long list of platforms where the legendary game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim can be played. The new version is the Anniversary Edition, originally released in 2021, and includes the base game along with three major expansion packs: Dawnguard, Dragonborn, and Hearthfire.
This edition features the inclusion of hundreds of items from the Creation Club, such as new quests, weapons, armor, spells, and fortified towers. It also contains special crossover content from the Zelda series, including the Master Sword, Hylian Shield, and Champion's Tunic outfit. Technically, the game leverages the capabilities of the new Switch 2 with improved resolution, DLSS anti-aliasing technology, faster loading times, and general performance enhancements, while supporting mouse and motion controls and Amiibo integration.
Bethesda clarified that the development process for this version was "relatively easy and quick," according to statements from Matt Carofano, the company's Creative Director. Regarding cost, new users will pay $60 for the 14-year-old game, while owners of the standard version on the original Switch will pay only $20 to upgrade. Owners of the Anniversary Edition on the previous console will receive the new version for free. The upgrade process can be performed for both digital and physical copies through the Nintendo eShop after installing the old version on the new device.
Despite criticism of the full version's price, Bethesda emphasizes that its goal is to deliver the "best possible experience" for the beloved game on the new platform. With this massive amount of additional content and technical improvements, Skyrim once again proves its ability to endure and transition across different hardware generations, targeting a new generation of players while satisfying its longtime fan base.
